Hosting with Intentionality

Hosting with Intentionality

Hosting with intentionality has been something I have been thinking about a lot lately. If you are like me, you place a high expectation on yourself to host the "best" gathering that impresses all your guests. Pressure from family, friends, social media, and especially Pinterest has distracted us from caring about the people at our gatherings to caring more about how it looks.

I have to be honest, I have not hosted many gatherings in my studio apartment since moving in last May, but hosting has been in my blood since birth. I crave the community aspect of breaking bread together and sharing moments around the table. I believe that this company and the building of a community center will cultivate this atmosphere. The thought of it makes me giddy.

I am reminded of the woman at the last supper who poured her finest oil on top of Jesus' head as he and his disciples conversed around the table. A lot of Jesus’ disciples thought it wasteful for an oil of that worth to be poured out, but the woman was preparing Jesus for burial, the ultimate sacrifice. This was a honoring gesture that is now remembered forever and by his response, we know it meant a great deal to Jesus.

I chose the title for this post as a way to think about gatherings differently. The last supper had no mention of fine linens or elegant drapery. They speak of the preparation of burial and communion, which is the remembrance of the sacrifice of Jesus and his crucifixion. The table became a place of vulnerability for Jesus and his disciples, a place for conversation and deep relationship to be built. What a beautiful representation of our relationship with Christ.

An amazing gathering is intentional and purposeful. It should be a time to get to know our guests on a deeper level, to serve them, and to honor them as the woman at the last supper honored Jesus. Not only giving our best in a physical sense, but also with our hearts. Going the extra mile for our guests doesn't mean we have to spend more money, little touches of thoughtfulness can really go a long way.

>>>Intentional ways to elevate your gatherings<<<

1. Personalize with table seating & name tags
2. Provide comfort by mixing old and new items
3. Offer finger foods to encourage flowing conversation
4. Include hand/home made items
5. Design your table with candles & soft music for a beautiful ambiance
 6. Add florals or greenery for a finishing touch
 7. Have something for your guests to take home with them

We hope these simple suggestions bring intentionality to your next gathering. It is our honor to honor you.
